Model Training Course Inaugurated.
An eight-day Model Training Course on “Soil Health Management for Organic Farming & Good Agriculture Practices in NEH Region- An Option for Sustainable Agriculture” has been inaugurated at ICAR, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat on the 2nd September 2019 under the sponsorship of Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer’s Welfare, Govt. of India. The inaugural programme was graced by Prof. M Premjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University as the Chief Guest, Dr. N. Prakash as the President, Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh, Course Advisor and Dr. T. Basanta Singh the Course Director.
During the inaugural speech, Prof. M Premjit Singh stated that due to adoption of Integrated Farming System by farmers in the NE Region, the incidence of crop failure on farmer livelihood is very less and there are various alternative enterprises as a source of income and livelihood. He also stresses the need for adoption of soil test based crop nutrient management for better soil health and crop yield. He also states that challenges in adoption of organic farming is during the process of organic certification.
In his presidential speech, Dr. N. Prakash stated that, quality control of farm product is still a challenge in the NE region which is an impediment for better marketing and better price. He also stated that for doubling farmer’s income we need post-harvest facilities, good transport and better market facilities.
As stated by Course Director, Dr. T. Basanta Singh, altogether, 27 trainees comprising of Scientist, Agriculture Officers, Extension and Technical Officers from the 6 states of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Telangana, Manipur were participated in the training programme. During the training, various topic related to organic farming will be delivered by resource person from ICAR and other line organizations. The training also includes field visit to organic farms and other related enterprises.
